Tilly is a very gentle and timid cat. She is mainly an indoor cat who likes the occasional play in the garden, but usually only when a member of the family is outside with her as she gets scared quite easily.

She is quite shy around strangers, but with a little gentle coaxing she will sometimes let them stroke her. The night she went missing was a very warm evening so the doors to the garden were open. I was just making her evening meal of fish when I noticed she was playing in the garden. I was not concerned as I knew she would be back in in a flash as soon as she smelt her fish.

I then went upstairs to help put my children to bed leaving a window and doors open. Unfortunately, I fell asleep putting my youngest to bed and did not return downstairs until morning.

My husband was unaware that Tilly was still outside and at some time during that evening he closed the doors and window. It is possible that she returned at some point during the night and was unable to get in, but on one occasion a few weeks before when my husband had again unknowingly locked her out she had found a safe spot in the garden and slept until morning.

It was totally out of character for Tilly to go off especially when her food was waiting for her.
